Follow the instructions below to update the email of an individual contact or in bulk with a CSV file.

How to update the email of an individual contact

Step 1: Within Ambassador, click "Contacts" from the left-hand menu

Step 2: Search and select the contact record.

Step 3: Within the contact record, click into the 'Email' field > update the email > click the green check mark to save.

Note: The previous email will be saved in the "Secondary Email" field. If that previous email should be used by someone else going forward, you will need to delete it from that field.

How to bulk update the email for multiple contacts

With a CSV file, you can use the Contact Import to bulk update the email address of existing contact records.

Step 1: Create a CSV file with the following column names and data

  • email = input the existing email address as it exists in Ambassador

  • new_email = input the new email address

Tip: To avoid potential import errors, you can export your existing contacts to a CSV file > locate the contacts that need to be updated > and copy their email over to your new CSV file. This way you have the exact email that exists in Ambassador today. If it's just a small amount of contacts that you're updating, a quick search in the Contact table can help ensure you have the right emails instead of using a full export.

Step 2: Within Ambassador, click Contacts from the left-hand menu

Step 3: Click the Import Contacts button in the top-right and follow the prompts to import your CSV file.

  • A pop-up will appear. You can either upload or drag and drop your CSV file into the pop-up. Before clicking through to the next step, you'll need to select an email address for import results to be sent to.

  • In the "Mapping" step, you'll verify that the information in your import is associated to the right data. Make sure "First row contains column names" is checked.

  • In the "Notify" step, select "Don't send anything" to avoid sending another welcome email.

  • Review and select "Finish".

Step 4: Check your import results email to confirm there are no errors and then you're done!
