Creating a welcome message for your program is a great way to create a customized experience for a referred contact that is engaging with your company for the first time.
With the welcome message, when your ambassador shares their unique link, you can display a customized modal that appears when the referred friend lands on your site. This message can include a personalized greeting and a coupon code or even a gate to collect the referee's email address.
How do I create a welcome message?
Once you’ve added the code snippet to your website, creating a welcome message is easy!
Step 1: In the navigation menu on the left, click "Editor." You'll end up here.
Step 2: To launch the Visual Editor, enter the URL where you want add your welcome message, then click the blue “Go to...” button.
Ambassador will then verify that the snippet code is present on the page before redirecting to your website.
Step 3: Once your website loads, you’ll notice a navigation bar on the left side of your page. Click the plus button in the top right corner of this navigation bar to add a new integration.
Step 4: Next, you’ll select “Welcome Message” as the type of integration you want to add.
Step 5: Enter a name for your Welcome Message and select the campaign, then click “Continue.”
TIP: We recommend creating a naming convention that allows you to easily distinguish between your welcome message, RAF modules, conversions and identifiers (ex. Homepage WM).
Step 6: You’ll be prompted to select how the welcome message will be triggered.
On Arrival via Share Link: This is the most commonly used trigger. It will launch the welcome message when a visitor lands on the page after clicking an ambassador's share link.
On Page Load: This trigger will launch the welcome message whenever a referee returns to the page and it loads.
Click: If you want the welcome message to appear after clicking a particular button on your website, select this option. You’ll then be prompted to choose the button that will trigger the welcome message.
Query Parameter: If you’re storing variables about your user’s sessions in URL parameters, you can utilize query parameters to trigger the welcome message. After selecting this option, you’ll enter the query parameter and value.
Step 7: Next, you’ll select if you want to embed the welcome message on the page or display it via a modal pop-up.
Embed: If you select this option, you’ll need to choose where the welcome message is located. Once placed, you'll be asked to confirm the location.
Modal: If you select this option, you’ll be taken directly to step 8.
Step 8: Then, you’ll select if you want to use a coupon code or not.
Step 9: If you opt to use a code, you'll then select your code source. If you opt to not use a code, skip to Step 10.
Static: This is one of the most common options. A static code will allow you to display the same coupon code for all referred contacts.
Query Parameter: This option allows you to pull a coupon code from URL parameters in the ambassador's share link.
Coupon Code: This is the most commonly used option as it allows you to upload a variety of unique codes to Ambassador that will be populated in the welcome message.
Short Code: This allows you display the short code of the ambassador as the coupon code.
Step 10: Finally, you'll choose whether or not to gate the welcome message. A gated email requires the referred contact to enter in their email address to see the welcome message.
Step 11: You'll be provided with a summary of your selections. If you need to make any adjustments, simply click the back button. If you are ready to proceed with customizing your message, click "Start Editing!"
Step 12: Your last steps will be customizing your welcome message. There are three different sections you can edit:
Settings: This section will display all of the options you selected in the previous steps. If using a code, you can choose how to the code will be provided under "How should the code be delivered?" Options include displaying the code, sending the code in an email or displaying and emailing the coupon code.
Content: This is where you can customize the overall messaging for your welcome message. This will allow you to edit the copy in the message, the button text, footer, relauncher text and more. Please note, if you are using an email gate, this is where you'll edit the copy, terms and conditions checkbox. If you are using a coupon code and sending it via email, this is also where you'll be able to customize the email sent to the referred customer.
Styles: This section is where you’ll customize the look and feel of your welcome message. You can edit the avatar, button, modal container, relauncher and code if you are using one.
Step 13: Once you’re done modifying the copy and design, click to “Save” your welcome message. When you click save, you’ll be asked whether or not you want to publish the integration to push it live.
Please note, you can always return to the Editor to view and edit your integrations by launching the Visual Editor as you did in Steps 1 and 2. When the Editor loads, you will see your available integrations. Simply click the integration you want to edit.
To publish later, go back into the integration and use the toggle button at the top to push your welcome message live.
