Overview

When configuring a Task, there is an optional field for a Click URL.

When a user clicks on a Task with a Click URL, it will redirect the participant to an external landing page.

You can setup a Rule to trigger when they click on the Task to mark it as complete and reward points, a badge, and/or send an email.

Here is an example from your Admin account of the Task setup with the Click URL field

Here is an example view from the Portal of the Tasks and showing some as "Completed"

Example scenarios

  • Follow us on {insert social media site}

  • Leave us a review on {insert review site}

  • Signup for our newsletter

  • Signup for our {insert topic} webinar

  • Signup for our beta community

Keep in Mind

Please review the following to ensure that triggering a rule with a Click URL fits your requirements:

  • This method only tracks if the user clicked on the Task from the Portal.

    • At this time, we cannot track if they followed through to complete the task on the other end, such as actually followed your account on social media or entered their email to sign up, etc.

    • If require confirmation of task completion, we recommend identifying another means to track the completion, then you can utilize our API to trigger a rule or import a CSV to reward points.

  • Choosing the "Complete Task" effect will mark the task as complete so that it can only trigger once.

    • We recommend this approach to avoid potential mis-use and do not recommend allowing a Task to be completed more than once if you are rewarding points or other rewards when clicked.

How to Setup a Task with a Click URL and Effects

Follow each of the steps below for each Task that should have a Click URL and Effects associated with it to reward points, badges, or send emails.

  • Value = A list of tasks with a Click URL will show up, select the applicable one for this rule.

Go down to the Effects section and select those applicable for this Task

  • Type = Complete Task

    • This will mark the task as complete so that it can only be completed once. It will also assign points if the Tasks is setup to do so. You do not need to add an additional effect to reward points unless you are doing bonus points for a reason.

  • Value = A list of tasks will show up, select the applicable one for this rule.

If you would like to include additional effects with this completed task, such as issuing a badge or sending an email, see below - otherwise skip to step 3 and "Save".

  • Value = A list of your Loyalty emails will show up, select the applicable one for this rule.

Step 3: Click the "Save" button.

Here is an example of a Rule setup to trigger when a Task is clicked to leave a review, and mark the Task as complete. This particular task rewards 250 points already, so we don't have an additional rule effect to issue any points.
