Overview

If you have enabled the referral module in your participant Portal, you will need to add campaign-specific share copy for each of the enabled channels that a participant can share through, within each referral campaign setup.

If you are utilizing another referral module on your website, you can copy/paste that same copy into the Campaign settings as well. Otherwise, as you draft your copy, we recommend that you include a compelling call-to-action that represents your brand and necessary details about the referral.

Share Channels Available

  • Email

  • Facebook

  • Twitter (now known as X)

  • LinkedIn

  • Native Share (participants can share through any app on their mobile device, such as text message/imessage, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp and more.)

Steps to Update Portal Share Messaging

Within each of your referral campaigns, follow these steps to add your Portal share copy.

Step 1: Open the Portal settings for your campaign

In the navigation menu on the left, click Referral > Campaigns > select the campaign from the list > then, click Portal from the sub-menu.

Step 2: Make sure the Portal is toggled on for this campaign

Step 3: Click Edit next to Share Messaging.

Step 4: Toggle on/off share channels that you want to enable/disable

Each share channel has a toggle to the right that you can use to enable the channel or toggle off to disable it.

Step 5: Add your share messaging for each channel

Email Sharing

When a participant shares via email, the from email name will be theirs but it will use the outgoing email address setup in your account settings.

You can input a suggested Subject and Editable Share Message that they can edit. You can also input an Uneditable Company Message that they will not be able to edit.

Note: The participant's referral link will automatically be added to the end of the share copy. You do not need to include a merge tag to populate it.

Facebook Sharing

Facebook does not allow us to pass through a message on behalf of the user. However, you can control the link preview image that pulls through when they share by setting your open graph meta tags on the landing page where share links point. Read more in this support article.

Twitter Sharing

Add suggested share copy for Twitter that is 280 characters or less.

When they select Twitter to share, it will prompt them to login, then it will display the suggested copy and their share link at the end. They will be able to edit this copy.

LinkedIn Sharing

Add suggested share copy for LinkedIn that is 3000 characters or less.

When they select LinkedIn to share, it will prompt them to login, then it will display the suggested copy and their share link at the end. They will be able to edit this copy.

Native Sharing

Add suggested share copy that the participant can use to post through any app on their mobile device, such as Text Message/iMessage, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, What's App and more. We recommend that you limit it to 160 characters or less, which is the limit for SMS. Click here to see user experience sharing with native apps.

When they select Native Share, it will open their available apps to select from and then they will be able to follow the prompts to share the suggested copy and their share link at the end. They will be able to edit this copy.

Step 6: Enable QR Code

Enable your participants QR to display for them to save or display on demand for someone to scan. The person will be directed to campaign landing page with tracking just like their unique referral link.

Step 7: Save

When complete, click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
